Can You Come Up WIth The Title Of This Film?

A friend of mine is struggling a recall the title of a US tv movie released (she thinks) in the late eighties/early nineties. It revolved around a father who abducted his own child - to rescue him/her from a bad domestic situation with the mother - and persuaded an underground women's group to help him evade the authorities and keep his child. My friend can't remember who played the male lead. I know it's a big ask but if you know the title of the film, please post a response as not being able to remember anything about it is driving her crazy!
