What are some good relaxation methods?

Concentrate on your breathing to the exclusion of everything else. Follow it from the start of the inhalation to the end of the exhalation. Increase the amount of inhalation (fill your lungs fully) and exhalation (empty your lungs fully) to the max. You will notice that once you do this your heartbeat will present itself, do not try to block it out, but rather start concentrating on it, continuing your concentration on your breathing but let it take a back seat to your heartbeat. You will have room for no other thoughts or feelings. Continuing to pay attention to your breathing concentrate on your heartbeat, anticipating and feeling it, notice there are two beats. Let your internal metronome synchronize with your heartbeat until they are one. Now let your internal metronome fall behind your heartbeat, this will have the effect of slowing it down. Try not to totally ignore your breathing. Although there will seem to be a lot going on now there is really only 3-4 things - your breathing, your heartbeat, and your anticipation/delay of the heartbeat. There is no room for other thoughts and feelings and it will take all of your concentration for these few basic things. This will relax you.
