Can severe damage to the body cause Cardiac Arrest?

This is probably a stupid question, but can severe damage to the body cause cardiac arrest? I'm not talking about things like bad eating habits or it just happening out of the blue. I mean, can cardiac arrest be caused by losing a limb or by just having a single vein cut into? I'm not trying to kill myself so don't worry, this is for a competition on DA.
